Photography Museums and Galleries

Photography museums and galleries are great places to view a variety of fine images from the past and present.

Rochester, New York :

Eastman Museum 900 East Avenue, Rochester, New York. This was the home of George Eastman who started the Eastman Kodak company. Mr. Eastman's 1st popular camera was the Brownie. 

This museum shows photo exhibits several times a year. Also, they have their annual "wish you were here" photography lecture series of professional photographers from all over the United States.

Their collection includes photos by Matthew B. Brady, Ernst Haus, Margaret Bourke-White, Andy Warhol (some shots of Lena Horne), James Sibley Watson Sr,  David Asch and more.  Free admission to members http://www.eastman.org 

New York City :

International Center of Photography. Their photos are housed at 250 Bowery, 1114 Avenue of the Americas and 888 Newark Ave, in Jersey City, NJ.  Their images span the history of photography from beginning to the present.

Museum of Modern Art has a collection gallery of more than 20,000 cool photos they're located at 11 West 53rd Street, New York, New York 

Pennsylvania:

Carnegie Museum of Art - Their photos include work by "Lewis Carroll, Julia Margaret Cameron, Elliot Erwitt, Lewis w. Hine, Russell Lee, Duane Michaels, Barbara Morgan, W. Boston, Massachusetts :

Washington, DC:

National Museum of American History - Constitution Avenue, NW between 12th and 14th streets I Washington, DC - They carry millions of images covering United States history. Many of their pics cover the history of photography. Their works include shots from greats like Richard Avedon and Edward Weston. Also, their holdings includes a variety of antique cameras.  

Arizona :

Center for Creative Photography at the University of Arizona - Their collection documents "the history of North American photography". They store more than 2000 of Ansel Adam's prints. Also, they carry images of "Wynn Bullock, Harry Callahan, Aaron Siskind" and hundreds of other photographers from North America.
